Alter it! - Wear it Again! | 4-Week Course | 29 October

Alter it! - Wear it Again builds nicely on the first course but also works as a standalone course.

Four more weeks of practical alteration skills to help you rescue, refresh and get more wear from the clothes you already own.

Week 1 – Waistbands that Actually Fit
Learn ways to take in or let out waistbands, work with elasticated waists, replace tired elastic and understand how different waistbands are constructed.

Week 2 – Zips, Buttons & Fastenings
Tackle some of the most common clothing repairs, including straightforward zip replacements, buttons, hooks and eyes – and learn when a repair is better left to a specialist.

Week 3 – Change the Shape
Explore how relatively simple changes to length, trouser legs, sleeves and garment shape can improve the fit and make clothes more wearable.

Week 4 – Rescue, Restyle & Rewear
Bring along an unloved garment and give it another chance. Alter it, restyle it, repair it or repurpose it, using the skills you’ve developed during the course.

This is a four-week course and your booking reserves your place for all four evenings.

Course fee: £20 (£5 per evening)
Duration: 2 hours per week

Great to be back for another season at the sewing group. Met some lovely new ladies and looking forward to some new projects, with lots of help from Gill, Alana and Karen our instructors 😊

Another great session tonight and got a lot out of it. Tutors are very encouraging and are just as excited to see sewers complete their projects. Cant wait until next week.

Excellent session. Finished my 1st piece, a tote back with a pocket in 3 weeks 😁
As always, nothing is too much trouble for the tutors, who remain calm when youre not, and show you how to sort and mistakes you make.

I attended the beginners sewing class, using a sewing machine. As an absolute newbie, I was made to feel comfortable and welcome by the 3 ladies taking the class. They are very knowlegable and I was taken through my machine step-by-step and encouraged to 'just go for it'. By the end of the 2hrs I was cutting and sewing material to make a bag!
And to top it all, you even get a cuppa and a chocolate biscuit 😋

I attended the 1st of four sewing sessions last night in the AD cameron Centre run by SWI. The session did not disappoint and I learned a lot from Karen who was very patient and shared her wealth of knowledge. The group are very friendly and upbeat. Looking forward to next week.
